Bringin' it Backwards Podcast with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's

Adam Lisicky: Welcome back to Bringin' It Backwards, a podcast where legendary and rising artists share their journey to stardom. In this episode, we're joined by Tom Higginson of the Plain White T's over Zoom video. This is Tom's second time on the podcast. Previously, my brother-in-law, Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, interviewed Tom, as their bands had played together several times. I was thrilled to chat with Tom myself this time.

We discussed the beginnings of the Plain White T's, their journey to getting signed, and their first manager. Tom delved into the massive success of "Hey There Delilah," and we covered all the albums, including 'Big Bad World' with "1, 2, 3, 4" and 'Wonders of the Younger.' Tom also spoke about 'American Knights,' the album they released independently, and the music video for its title song, starring his son. We touched on their return to Fearless Records, the making of 'Parallel Universe,' and their exciting, self-titled new record. There's also a big tour coming up to support this album.

Tom Higgenson: It's been a journey, from our formation to where we are now. Each album has its own story, reflecting our growth and changes as a band. 'Wonders of the Younger' was particularly special, as it was the first to feature songs written by Tim Lopez, including "Rhythm of Love." The creation of 'American Knights' was a significant time for us, releasing it independently and involving personal elements like my son in the music video.

Our latest album, the self-titled 'Plain White T's,' feels like a culmination of our experiences. It represents who we are as a band today, capturing our essence in a way that feels fresh yet familiar. We're really proud of it and can't wait to share it with our fans on our upcoming tour.

Adam Lisicky: That sounds incredible, Tom. It's amazing to see how you've navigated your career, evolving with each album while staying true to the band's identity. Your fans, old and new, are in for a treat with this new album and tour.

Tom Higgenson: Absolutely. It's all about the music and the connection we have with our fans. This new album and tour are just the next steps in our journey, and we're excited to see where they take us.
