The Indonesian-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Stephanie Poetri has released her bold and delightfully cheeky new single “Astrologically Illogical,” out today via Infinite Thrills/88Rising. While her music has been known for its soft, ethereal qualities that come through in her stunning alto voice, this song marks an exciting new chapter of powerful vocals, edgy lyrical prowess, and a healthy dose of indie-pop/indie-rock inspiration that is part of Poetri’s musical DNA. With this single, Poetri is inserting daring feminine energy into the pop-rock world.

Born on May 20th, Poetri taps into her Taurus qualities for inspiration, writing about a relationship that she finds to be successful, despite the two parties’ astrological signs being incompatible. Poetri says about the song, “I was inspired by this culture of checking our compatibility with one another through astrology. Based on my own experiences, even with signs I’m supposed to be compatible with, it doesn’t always feel accurate. So this song is a fun critique on how astrology doesn’t seem to work for me.”

Poetri has always possessed an uncanny ability to exhibit authenticity in her music, stemming from her strong songwriting sensibilities and desire to share relatable experiences with her fans. This authenticity connected right away, with her 2019 viral hit, "I Love You 3000,” reaching over 365 million streams to date, including 156 million views on the DIY video she and her sister made to accompany it, and a remix version, “I Love You 3000 II,” featuring Jackson Wang.

“Astrologically Illogical” follows the release of Poetri's latest tracks, “No Explanations” (with Elephante and ZHANG YANQI)” and “Breakfast in Bed” (with gnash).”

Stephanie Poetri

Artist

Like her name suggests, Stephanie Poetri’s music has a softness to it, an ethereal quality that comes through crystal clear in her stunning alto voice. Originally, her very first single, “I Love You 3000,” was just a snippet for social media, but the overwhelmingly positive response from Poetri’s followers sent her back to the studio to transform it into a full song. Stephanie followed that up by signing with transformative, internet-savvy powerhouse 88rising, a tastemaking giant for Asian talent, and a move to Los Angeles, which allowed her to explore the other areas of artistic expression. Along with music, Poetri’s creative background includes a love for visual arts and video games, both of which have been a big part of her aesthetic as an artist. In this new era, she’s incorporating edgier rock sounds into her own music, and a healthy dose of indie pop and indie rock is forever part of Poetri’s musical DNA. Citing contemporaries like Beabadoobee, Julia Michaels, Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams—and the ever-present touchstone of Taylor Swift—Poetri has been working on plenty of new material and is ready to enter into a new phase
