Casey, vocalist
Upon announcing their end as a band in 2018, CASEY left a large hole in the experimental, post-hardcore community. Lamenting the loss, huge outlets including Rock Sound (UK) noted that their sudden break “felt like a huge loss for the alternative music scene”. Not ones to disappoint, the band has emerged to unleash their most sonically mature, discernibly angry, lyrically-charged album, How To Disappear, which arrived on January 12th via Hassle Records.
Hailing from South Wales, five-piece CASEY crashed onto the scene with “distinctly personal songwriting” in 2014. Their name derived twofold; to honor vocalist’s Tom Weaver’s admiration of Casey, an album by alt-band The Rise of Science, in addition to paying tribute to late Hawthorne Heights guitarist, Casey Calvert.
Never ones to shy away from the pain that ails them, the foreword for How To Disappear comes with a warning from Weaver, who explains his “suicidal ideation” may be triggering for some, but should serve as a reminder that this profound release is a large reason “I’m still here - and I’m glad that I am.”
Bold, unafraid and unbridled, sample CASEY’s 12-track return LP, How To Disappear, with singles “Selah”, “Bite Through My Tongue”, and title-track “How To Disappear”.
For fans of introspective, no-holds-barre post-hardcore, Weaver’s most recent writing takes a look at the life he’s led so far, what’s led him to lose his faith and what anxieties keep him going. Diagnosed with brittle bones at birth, ulcerative colitis at age 15, manic depression at 20, Tom has triumphed over even a heart attack and stroke before a massive car accident while touring with a previous band. Face broken, Weaver braved surgery to have bones in his skull replaced by titanium plates, making him one of the most bionic frontmen in hardcore today.
Using these life altering experiences as a launch pad, CASEY’s ethos is truly calculated and carnal, resulting in a live show that becomes a release as much for the band as it is for the audience.
The band’s return, requested by so many, is leading CASEY all over in 2024. Starting across the pond, CASEY is touring How To Disappear beginning in the US with Holding Absence, headlining in the UK and EU starting late March and Australia with Dayseeker in July. They’ll be bringing their unrivaled energy to this year’s Impericon Festival, so be sure to not miss CASEY.
